Description
The Carboniferous was the time of bizarre beginnings – the first forests and the first creatures to live full-time on land. Perhaps there is nothing more emblematic of both than the Arthropleura, a 2-3 meter millipede that prowled the dense wetland undergrowth. Only the water-dwelling “sea scorpions” rival it for the position of largest arthropod in Earth’s history.
